Turkey Day


Today was Thanksgiving, always our favorite holiday of the year.  The nice thing about being overseas is that people tend to overcompensate for being away from home.  Last month, we had three days of Halloween.  And this Thanksgiving feast was as close to the real deal as one could get this far from Plymouth Rock. We were very fortunate to be taken in by a group of ex-pat families who have lived overseas for a couple of decades. They are all on the Embassy circuit (which usually means three years at each post), and now have kids in high school and/or college. 

A few things were different at this Thanksgiving.  We did not need to wear socks.  We played a very competitive round of croquet while snacking on appetizers:


And many things were the same.  We tossed around a football:

Piña coladas in November?  Don't mind if we do!

There was a grown ups table (inside) and a kids table (outside around the fire pit). Yoda came in for a visit:


Finally, we sat in a bit of traffic on the way home, our bellies overstuffed from the final course of pecan pie:
