For spring break, we took a one hour flight to Udaipur, which is billed as "The Venice of India". Now, we have been to Venice, and perhaps there were a couple of similarities - water and buildings and people offering to take us on a boat ride - but this was definitely not Italy. However, this small city proved to be a great getaway destination for four days. There isn't a whole lot that one must see or must do on a visit to this oasis in southern Rajasthan, just enjoy the scenery of the lakes and the Aravalli Hills and get back to the hotel pool.
As always, Jonah's favorite part of any trip is the airport. We get there extra early to watch planes take off and land. This game of Uno had tough competition for their attention:
At our hotel, we stayed on the lookout for peacocks and monkeys, and saw both (please note that only one of the aforementioned animals is in the photo):
We had a very nice view of City Palace from our table during our first (and best) dinner of the trip at Ambhrai restaurant. During our meal, fireworks lit up the sky for Hindu New Year (a holiday we knew nothing about).
Our tuk-tuk driver took us into the old part of the city which is so much more manageable than Old Delhi (an area the boys have not yet visited). We got to see markets as they were opening up for the day and lots and lots of cows.
We did take a boat ride around the lake, the most obvious activity in town, and toured City Palace.
And on the way home from our last dinner, the boys tried on traditional Rajasthani turbans (we bought two, one for Liam and one for Jonah).
All in all, it was a very nice break and now the countdown to summer vacation is on - for real. We talk about summer a lot - all the people we will see, the celebrations we will attend, and the places where we will eat (top of the kids' list: Pat's Pizza). It's just six weeks away!

The picture with the turbans is SO cute!
