New color scheme! What took so long?! Inspired by all the photos of ice, perhaps.
After four nights in El Chaltén, it was a comfortable three-hour bus ride through beautiful landscape to El Calafate where we stayed the next five nights.

El Calafate is a bustling town with more shops, restaurants, and people - by far - than El Chaltén. Most visitors stay a short time (two or three nights) to see the main attraction, the Perito Moreno Glacier.
When checking into our hotel, we were told the weather forecast was looking good so made arrangements to do the tour the following day. The day began with an hour or so bus ride to the boat launch. It was overcast and quite chilly in the morning but as the day progressed, we peeled off layers and the bright sunshine created dazzling shades of blue appear in the ice.

Back on land, we walked along extensive network of trails for a range of views of the ice, mountains, and Lago Argentino.
The rest of our time in El Calafate revolved around great meals, a visit to the Glaciarium (fancy name for glacier museum), a bit of history and lunch at a touristy estancia (think Plimoth Plantation), ringing in the New Year at an asado hosted by the hotel manager, and our first Pisco Sours.
Next, onward to the border and checking out Chile!
