It's Electric

At 5pm everyday, the campus switches from it's own electrical source to the Delhi power grid. The lights go out, we wait for a few seconds, the lights go back on. Our proximity to the U.S. Embassy ensures that we have reliable power (and safe drinking water) both at work and at home.

Our apartment kitchen runs on 110 so our appliances from home work here (or will work here, most are still on the high seas). Here is our sparkling new coffee maker that arrived in the air shipment last week. This, plus Hazelnut Coffee-Mate, equals happiness each morning. One can only survive on Folgers Instant for so long.

The rest of the apartment is wired for 220 with these funky outlets.

And just for fun, here is a light switch. No dimmers in this house (that dial is for the ceiling fan that we have not used yet).

And this is the crazy contraption that is required in order to use my hair dryer. When I requested a power adapter, I had envisioned something a bit more sleek, perhaps even travel-size. This thing will not be in our luggage for the upcoming weekend getaway.
