"Matta-poi-sett"
After changing locations fifteen times last summer,
There were long conversations about where to focus the search. After living in Maine for nine years (and dreaming of owning a small camp on a rural lake some day), our hearts were pulled in that direction. Our kids are Mainers and we have a terrific circle of friends there as well as countless great memories that stretch back to our college days. But it was our choice to move overseas and the top priority of summer vacation is to reconnect with family. And since four of our five siblings (and eight - soon to be nine - of the boys' ten - soon to be eleven - cousins) live in Massachusetts, we decided to hunt for a home base there.
Friends and friends of friends suggested that we check out Mattapoisett, a small town on Buzzards Bay between Newport, Rhode Island and Cape Cod. We scoped it out on a day trip from Hingham last July. A cute place in a beach side neighborhood came on the market in November. It sure took a village, but the deal closed a couple of weeks ago. Very special thanks go to: Ted, our tireless and infinitely patient agent; Matt for taking time away from work to be our eyes and ears at inspection; Marya for recording a virtual walk through for us on her first day home for winter break and for the "Mattapoisett...is Special" bumper sticker; Dauri for signing her name a zillion times as Power of Attorney on what should have a been a sick day; Jenn for helping us wire a large sum of cash at a moment's notice; and Dad for providing all the pesky documentation to show that the deposit check he mailed on our behalf was a gift (even though it wasn't).
And this is the cozy abode where you will find us between June 3 and July 29:
Please plan to drop by and stay a while - we would love to see you!
