The waters off Mirissa are on the migration path of blue whales - blue whales! - so we spent one morning out at sea with Raja. He knew just where to find these amazing creatures (unfortunately, the photos did not do justice) and educated our group about conservation efforts in the region along the way.
As we climbed aboard this tiny ship, Dramamine was distributed to all passengers which made for a very quiet return to port.
One morning, everyone was entertained by a group of men hired to climb the tall palm trees and pick ripe coconuts that might otherwise fall on a hotel guest. It was a bit nerve-wracking to watch them in action with just a rope wrapped around their feet for grip and no safety harness:
