5 on a bike

What a difference ten days make. The training wheels were taken off Liam's bike in the fall but only recently have we made a focused effort to get him up and riding. Taking advantage of the nice weekend weather, we spent some time out on the field next to our apartment two weeks ago, with a crew of campus kids cheering Liam on. It was an exciting afternoon, however Liam struggled to achieve balance and keep his feet going. 

Here he was, January 28th:

 



Then last weekend, we ventured out again. This time, Liam was more motivated to stick with it despite many, many falls, mucky (recently watered) grass, and the lack of an audience.


We moved to a different field, hoping it would be drier. He really did not want to stop trying:


 

 

And then this past Monday afternoon, he got it!! It was late in the day and getting dark but Jonah, Asa, and a team of loyal supporters were on hand to witness this milestone event (Kristen was at Jazzercise and missed it entirely). This video was taken yesterday while the sun was still shining on a very, very proud Liam:
