KLove At First Sight

After two weeks at the beach, it was time to take in the sights of Kuala Lumpur before heading back to Delhi. The drive from the airport into the city took about an hour and during that time, members of our group repeatedly exclaimed things like: What a gorgeous highway! It's so clean! Look at those beautiful palm trees! So orderly! Where is everybody?! The sky is so blue! This is the fastest I've gone in a car since America!

Yep. We were going to like it here.

Liam, however, was delaying judgement:

The hotel was very close to the Petronas Towers, the tallest twin towers in the world. We took lots of pictures.

There is so much to do in KL and we kept ourselves busy over three days. On the first day, we visited the bird park and butterfly garden.

These men asked if we would take their photo. They invited Liam to join them. Turns out they were from Iraq. And they support Obama.

Later, we took a stroll through Chinatown. The entire city was gearing up for Chinese New Year:

And later, shopping at one of the big malls. Stride Rite, Banana Republic (having a post-holiday sale!), and a fancy grocery store were among the highlights.

Outside again, we stumbled upon the United Buddy Bears exhibit - one painted bear for each country in the world. Here is India:

In the shadow of the Towers, there is an outstanding park with several playgrounds and a wading pool where the kids cooled off:

On the last night, we took the advice of a local and went out for street food on Jalan Alor. It was a great experience: walking by all the food stalls before choosing a table, ordering from a pile of menus, steaming plates delivered by different vendors, and no one got sick!

It's now one month later and we are still talking about Kuala Lumpur. Could we live there someday? You bet!

There are a few more photos to share. You may click HERE to see them.
