Living in Delhi severely restricts access to the outdoors and so my favorite trips throughout our five years here have been to mountains and rural areas of India. Each year, our high school students and teachers take a week off from the classroom to explore India. Trip activities vary and include studying local music and crafts, white water rafting, trekking, and community service. Back in early March, our group of twenty students ventured north from Delhi up to the foothills of the Himalayas for two days of guided trekking and two days of rafting on the Ganges River, camping at a different location each night.
My co-chaperone/partner-in-Minicourse-crime (this year and last) was this guy, whose family and mine spend a heap of time together (such as this weekend and this weekend that wasn't). He took lots of photos while we hiked and then zero during the rafting part of the week (except with his GoPro which malfunctioned). Below are fifty photos from the two days spent up in the hills. It was freezing at night but the days were sunny and cool - perfect for the hours on the trail. It was a terrific week of physical challenges and everyone made it through to the end without incident. Such a wonderful and fun opportunity to get away from school with students and a true highlight of my time at AES.
