Somehow, there are less than six weeks left in the school year. Which means less than six weeks left in India. So we can't help but make note of the "lasts".
For example, we recently walked to the nearby neighborhood of Malcha Marg for pizza and then made the usual stop for dessert next door - 25 rupee ice cream treats (pre-packaged drumsticks). Taking in the scene I thought, "This could be the last time we do this. I've got to take a picture!"
And this past weekend, Asa had his final baseball game during which he told the coach, "this is my last game in Delhi and I'm going to 'bring it'". And bring it he did! Two doubles, a few RBI's, and a
sweet slide into home that just edged out the catcher's tag. Here is video of his final at-bat:
Asa with his baseball buddies - all of them sluggers. A plan was hatched to meet up in Cooperstown in 2016.
That's a glimpse of the current mindset as we wrap up the school year (as student, employee, and parent), decide what to ship to Argentina by sea (the estimate we got is that this will take 65 days, door-to-door), what to send to the USA by air, and then getting rid of all possessions not worth putting into either of these categories. "Pack out" date is set for May 15th. There are brief moments when reality sinks in and we know that the India chapter of our overseas life is nearly over. Is it complete? Not possible, no matter how long we stayed. Have we loved our time here? Absolutely. It's like getting to the end of a really great book and not wanting it to end; reading a page or two a day until there is no turning back. To document this strange time in the transition, the "lasts" will continue to be counted and documented until we board the plane on June 1st. And then it will time to start the "season of firsts"!
