Around the World in 20 Days
Back in November, July seemed really, really, really far away. And now here we are, less than 3 weeks to takeoff. We have been busy, and even managed to accomplish a few things. The house will have renters, our Visas arrived, all vaccinations have been administered, one car is sold, we have cleaned out a few closets and expanded our warm-weather wardrobe. But mostly, we have been having fun. Since the transition to full-time vacation mode about a month ago, we have spent time with family, caught up with lots of friends, took the kids to Storyland (which may only mean something to natives of Northern New England), spent a few days at the Jersey Shore, and stayed cool lakeside, poolside, and seaside at various Maine locations (thank you friends!!). I have to keep reminding myself that having summers (all of them!) off is part of the deal. Why I gave this up for the past six years remains a mystery.
Anyway, most conversations with family, friends and strangers end up having something to do with India. We can speak with great detail about our job search, the school, where we will live, about the climate, the travel opportunities, the regional cuisine, and the packing/shipping timeline and strategy. But really, the truth is, we haven't even been to India yet. So while we might sound like we know what we are talking about, we feel like total posers. We are eager to have our own experiences to share. And twenty days from now, we'll finally have our first story.
